PH’s Center of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing Opens Today
June 14, 2021, Taguig City – The Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) opened its doors to the public today in its launching and inauguration. The Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Sec. Fortunato T. Dela Peña, led the momentous event.

The AMCen, whose vision is to be a technology hub for additive manufacturing that features cutting-edge rapid prototyping capabilities, earned the support of other government agencies such as the Department of Finance and the Department of Trade and Industry.
Secretary Ramon M. Lopez of the DTI expressed his department’s excitement for all the opportunities that the AMCen will bring. He shared that among the country's innovative start-up ecosystem, only roughly 6% is into product manufacturing because of the huge upfront investment required. Now with the AMCen, Sec. Lopez said that 'additive manufacturing will hopefully encourage more start-ups to venture into manufacturing and establish their own micro-factories.'
The Department of Finance acknowledged that the pandemic taught our country that we urgently need to adopt new technologies in the way we do things. The DOF Secretary, in his Keynote Message, said that businesses will have to invest in innovation and technology as the country recovers from the pandemic. He advised local enterprises to team up with the AMCen ‘to explore how they can adopt additive manufacturing processes to improve their production lines.’ The DOF top executive also said that the AMCen is a ‘good starting point to upskill and retool our workers on advanced manufacturing technologies.’
DOST Secretary Dela Peña shared with all the guests and viewers the DOST's support to the initiatives of the AMCen in developing a pool of additive manufacturing experts and in expanding its capabilities. He assured the country to ‘expect more trained engineers, scientists, and well-versed technicians achieving prominent breakthroughs in the development of innovative additive manufacturing technologies, products, processes, and materials.’
The AMCen is located inside the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) Compound, along Gen. Santos Ave., Bicutan.
